Exhibition of Inventions: the volcanic eruption did not affect business

The 38th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva closed on a very positive note on April 25 this year. Although the volcanic eruption that grounded thousands of aircraft delayed the arrival of some exhibitors, it did not affect at all either the quantity or the quality of contacts with the business visitors, who turned up in large numbers.

As the organizers had predicted, attendance by members of the general public was down, with more than 52,000 visitors in five days, which was 15% less than in 2009.

It was a very high-quality Exhibition, marked by the efforts made by inventors to reach Geneva and by their satisfaction with the business they did, which was either initiated or processed during the event.

To increase the involvement of international organizations in the promotion of the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, a committee made up of well-known figures from the world of innovation has been established. Its members, who include Luuk Borg, Secretary General of the European EUREKA programme, and Jacques Michel, a former Vice-President of the European Patent Office, met in Geneva on the occasion of this 38th edition to define the basis on which that Committee will work.

The next Exhibition will be held from April 6 to 10, 2011.
