| | UTILEXPO’08: Construction machinery joins commercial vehicles in Hall 6 |
|
 | The second edition of Utilexpo – the regional light and heavy commercial vehicles exhibition – will take place from October 8-11 this year. This exhibition, which is organized by a committee of regional professionals representing the largest brands in the industry and the different branches of activity concerned, brings together road transport specialists every two years.
The success of the first edition in 2006, which was unanimously acclaimed by the exhibitors, visitors and the trade press, forms a sound base for UTILEXPO 08, which this year will open up to transport-related sectors and will feature in particular 8 exhibitors of construction site machinery.
Six of the seven major brands of heavy goods vehicles on the Swiss market - DAF, Iveco, Man, Mercedes, Volvo and Scania - have agreed to be present through their approved dealers. For light commercial vehicles, more than 10 major brands will be represented.
In total, nearly 70 stands will be presenting about 130 brands on a net surface area of 12,000 sq. metres. The event has in fact had to move out of Hall 7, which had become too cramped in view of the growing demand for surface area, and will now occupy almost all of Hall 6.
An additional outdoor exhibition area has been added - sheltered by Hall 6 - to accommodate the company Friderici, which specializes in special transports and lifting operations. Daily demonstrations of heavy handling operations and manoeuvres using a mobile crane promise to be an impressive show.
UTILEXPO’08 will also be the venue for a lively debate on the theme of transport policy and its future in Switzerland and Geneva. It will be held on Friday, October 10, from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., with the support of the newspaper GHI and Michel Balestra in the role of moderator.
On the attractions front, visitors will be able to win a dinner for two people and a night in a luxury hotel in Geneva: the challenge will be to win the lorry-driving competition on a simulator.
Some old-time trucks will be exhibited on the 250 sq.-metre space “Expo Collector”.
A sporting attraction, finally, with the stand of Markus Bösiger, the 2007 European champion of FIA European Truck Racing. He will be present in person on Saturday, October 11, alongside his “Buggyra Freightliner” for some autograph sessions.
As nothing less than a vector of corporate solutions, UTILEXPO is aimed at a public of professionals, but it is also open to the public at large.
