Code of Conduct regarding Health and Safety in the Workplace

1/ Responsibilities :

Any person on the PALEXPO site shall be subject to the authority of the Executive Board of PALEXPO SA, commissioned with the management and use of the site, and must comply with the applicable Guidelines for health and safety in the workplace (referred to hereafter as ST/PS), and, in particular, with the Code of Conduct set up by the Safety Department and the Executive Board.

PALEXPO SA undertakes to observe and comply with its Code of Conduct and with the laws, regulations and practices in force in Switzerland and in (cf. Swiss and legislation). National and canton legislation shall take precedence over the PALEXPO SA Code of Conduct.

PALEXPO SA declares the Code of Conduct to be obligatory on the PALEXPO site. The provisions of this Code of Conduct shall therefore apply to all PALEXPO SA employees, to persons and companies appointed by PALEXPO SA and to all companies working on the PALEXPO site.

2/ The employer PALEXPO SA:
2.1 Its role:

The Executive Board of PALEXPO SA, as employer, has overall responsibility for health and safety in the workplace. It shall delegate some of the tasks relating to ST/PS to staff and experts in workplace safety (spécialistes de la sécurité au travail, referred to hereafter as SST), and in particular to members of the PALEXPO SA Safety Department.

The Executive Board shall ensure that the appointed persons, particularly the SST’s, shall have appropriate training and continuing training available to them. It shall give them precise instructions and their competences shall be clearly defined.

The PALEXPO SA Executive Board is therefore charged with the following higher-level organisational tasks, for the completion of which it shall be obliged to :

2.2 Organisation:

2.2.1 Comply with recognised rules and regulations.
2.2.2 Impose the necessary health protection and safety measures.
2.2.3 Lay down competences
2.2.4 Determine risks.
2.2.5 Call on specialists.
2.2.6 Determine which work involves particular risks.
2.2.7 Reach agreements in the event of cooperation between several companies.
2.2.8 Suspend work if necessary
2.2.9 Etablir un plan d’urgence.

2.3 Communications and training :

2.3.1 Inform and instruct workers (including temporary staff).
2.3.2 Give precise instructions and clearly define competences.
2.3.3 Ensure the provision of training and continuing training.
2.3.4 Ensure that participation takes place.

2.4 Fitting out workplaces:

2.4.1 Safe working equipment.
2.4.2 Personal safety equipment.
2.4.3 Healthy working environment.
2.4.4 Safe buildings.
2.4.5 Ergonomics.
2.4.6 Specific arrangements with respect to health protection.

3/ The PALEXPO SA experts in workplace safety:

The PALEXPO SA experts in workplace safety (SST) shall have the following tasks in particular.

a/ In collaboration with the PALEXPO SA Executive Board and after consultation with staff or with the Staff Committee (Commission du Personnel, referred to hereafter as the COMPER) and with the relevant section heads, the SST’s shall draw up a risk assessment for the health and safety of employees.

b/ The SST’s shall advise the PALEXPO SA Board on questions of workplace safety and shall, in particular, provide it with information on:

Measures intended to remedy defects and reduce risks.

The acquisition of new installations and working equipment and the introduction of new working methods, new operating equipment, new materials and new chemical substances.

The choice of safety installations and personal safety equipment (équipements de protection individuels, referred to hereafter as EPI).

The instruction of employees regarding the professional risks to which they are exposed and regarding the use of safety installations and EPI and other measures to be taken.

The organisation of first aid, emergency medical assistance, and of rescue and fire-fighting measures.

c/ The SST’s shall be at the disposal of staff or of the COMPER for any advice or to answer any questions regarding their health and safety on the PALEXPO site.

4/ The obligations of PALEXPO SA staff:

Accident prevention and health protection for PALEXPO SA personnel shall be a priority for the PALEXPO SA Executive Board. It shall do all in its power to prevent accidents and protect health and hygiene and therefore asks that its employees support its efforts by means of active participation.

The obligations of PALEXPO SA employees in the field of ST/PS are as follows.

4.1 To follow the instructions of the employer.
4.2 To make correct use of safety equipment.
4.3 To use the EPI (safety helmets, boots, etc.)
4.4 To avoid placing themselves at risk, for example by the use of alcohol or other intoxicants.
4.5 To submit to medical examinations in the context of preventive healthcare.
4.6 To remove or report defects and faults.
4.7 To comply with safety regulations.

Employees are requested to make use of the measures relating to accident prevention and health protection on the PALEXPO site but also outside the workplace.
