The "GENEVA WORLD SECURITY FORUM" announced for 2006 Back to list
21.11.2005
The creation at GENEVA PALEXPO at the end of 2006 of the first GENEVA WORLD SECURITY FORUM was announced in Tunis, at the WSIS ( 2nd phase ). This event will be devoted to new technologies applied to security in all areas of human and economic activity. Being multipartite, it will regularly involve the public and private sectors and civil society by combining presentations, an exhibition of products and solutions, and training.
As the headquarters of numerous international organizations concerned with technical standardization and new technologies (ITU, WIPO, ISO, IEC, CERN, etc.), Geneva has the experience and competency it gained notably from nine world telecommunications exhibitions and the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2003, which were held successfully at GENEVA PALEXPO. Switzerland and the Lake Geneva Regions in particular are home to many research centres and centres of excellence. Neutrality and security are assured there.

As the initiator of the project, the State of Geneva, in association with Orgexpo GENEVA PALEXPO, has conducted a feasibility study which showed that although commercial events connected with this topic did exist, none had an overall approach that ensures maximum involvement of all the players concerned: suppliers of technical solutions, legal experts, academics, governments, international organizations (IOs, NGOs), etc.

Alarm, identification, detection and surveillance systems, IT and communication security, electronic equipment, services, investments and loans, among other topics, will be on the programme of the exhibition and presentations.

Apart from the commercial issues, account will be taken of topics connected with governance principles, scientific research, culture and human rights, for example. The GENEVA WORLD SECURITY FORUM therefore intends to be both a showcase and a platform for technological, economic and political exchanges.

Several public and private institutions have already expressed their interest in and support for this event, which will be extensively promoted for its premiere in 2006, and will become the benchmark event at the global level.
